Supporting Treatment Courts Nationwide

The Center’s National Training and Technical Assistance team provides adaptive and comprehensive support to treatment courts nationwide. The Center works to increase treatment courts’ adherence to best practices and ensure that individuals with substance use and mental health needs are connected with the support they need to live high-quality lives.

Treatment Courts Online: The National Online Learning System is funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and provides treatment court practitioners (e.g., judges, attorneys, treatment providers, peers, law enforcement) with training tools and resources to do their jobs effectively.

We Engage, Strategize, and Improve

The Center’s National Training and Technical Assistance Team engages treatment court stakeholders to understand their needs and provide responsive, tailored technical assistance. Our work is strategic, data-informed, and based on decades of experience as technical assistance providers, former prosecutors, defense attorneys, treatment providers, and individuals with lived experience. We seek to improve our approach over time and ensure we are responsive to the fields’ varied needs and changing landscape. We pride ourselves on long-standing and immersive relationships with the individuals, jurisdictions, and states we serve.

Bridging Research and Practice

Researchers at the Center for Justice Innovation explore diverse justice issues to bring meaningful understanding to communities and policymakers alike. We seek to bridge the worlds of research and practice, performing original applied research, translating findings into accessible and actionable products, and providing expert assistance that draws upon and promotes data-informed policies and practices. Researchers work collaboratively with the Center’s own operating projects and partners across the globe. We draw on diverse methods to conduct impact evaluations (randomized controlled trials and quasi-experiments); implementation assessments (process and diagnostic evaluations); assessment development and validation; and exploratory, community-based participatory research. Center researchers have conducted studies on a range of topics, including jail reduction and alternatives to incarceration, violence prevention, school safety, pretrial reform, restorative practices, reentry, the sex trade, problem-solving justice models, risk assessment, and 6th Amendment protections.
